PACKAGING TRENDS IN 2022

A new year means new trends. But what does 2022 have in store for us in the world of packaging?

 

It has been two years since we were plunged into the health crisis. Now more than ever, we need to find some serenity.  So this year's trends promise colorful packaging, nostalgia, experiences and trust.

1. USEFULNESS

As we have all noticed, the consumption mode has undeniably evolved during the various quarantines. Many consumers have taken the step of buying online and have integrated it into their lifestyle. It is therefore important to go back to the basics of the usefulness of packaging. Product protection and ease of transport will be the key words in 2022.

2. TYPOGRAPHY

There's been a buzz around linear typography in recent years, so much so that all the brands with clean packaging are now hard to differentiate. This year, it's time to play with the many possibilities: special fonts, colors, large and small letters, textural differences, curves, spirals. Typography becomes the key element of design, the visual identity.

3. SIXTIES

The sixties, the peace and love, this lightness and carefree spirit bring back joyful memories accompanied by nostalgia. This year, psychedelic packaging and bright colors will make a comeback, with a contemporary touch to the products.

4. THE YEAR 2000

Let's continue our journey through time by stopping in the year 2000. This period was marked by a common obsession with the future and the new millennium (back in time, future, we hope you follow!). A design with technological allure that honors cyberpunk is therefore one of the trends you will find in this year's packaging. Chrome effect, electronic chips and space shuttles, all will be present.

5. TRANSPARENCY

Consumers need to be able to trust brands, and what better way than to allow them to see the products when making a purchase decision? Packaging that incorporates transparent windows to give a glimpse of the contents will be very popular in 2022. It is also possible to play with this transparency to allow products to be part of the design.

6. STORYTELLING

 The principle of storytelling in packaging is to tell the brand's story through the packaging. This creates a link with the consumer and reinforces the trust effect that we discussed in the previous point. In 2022, brands will play with different packaging for each of their products and all will tell a piece of the story.

7. EXPERIENCES

It is possible to use your packaging to make people dream. The world is hungry for new experiences, so why not offer them through packaging? Two techniques will stand out in 2022. 

We will be able to observe very minimalist packaging on the outside and ultra colorful, if not eccentric, on the inside. This shocking contrast will have the advantage of surprising and marking the consumers.

 

Another trendy technique is connected packaging. Simply affix a QR code on the packaging and the consumer will only have to scan it with his cell phone or tablet. This is when the magic happens: storytelling, interactive games, everything is possible to ensure entertainment.

8. FLAT PACKAGING

Of course, eco-responsibility is an essential element in the choice of packaging. In order to preserve our planet, sustainable, recyclable and biodegradable materials will be favored in 2022 and this trend is not ready to stop.
